Is it important for Christians to take care of mind, body and soul?
I have practiced yoga and meditation for several years now. I have found the practice to be very therapeutic healing my mind, body and soul. It has help me handle the stress in my life as well. I have had few migraines when practicing yoga and meditation. I find it interesting that man was created in the image of God and that God is trinity: Father, Son, Holy Spirit. I also find it interesting that we are created with mind, body and soul. Isn't it important that we take care of ourselves in all ways mind, body soul? Jesus tells us to love him mind, body and soul as well. The question isn't can Christians practice yoga but rather shouldn't we do what takes care of the complete self since we are the temple of God? Is it healthy for Christians to neglect any aspect of self in which we were created by God? Do we focus enough on taking care of ourselves? We seem to of course focus on the soul yet don't mention enough the importance of taking care of the body and mind? Why don't we focus more as believers on all three aspects? How have you found the practice of yoga and meditation to be beneficial in your life?

We are not divided by independant parts, we are all one self constructed by our body, our mind and our soul. We cannot take care of one and neglect the other, we have to tune up all. I am not aware of any passage that specifically commands to do excercise. But God does needs us to become better persons, to achieve our full potential in all aspects of our life. Saying so is easier that acomplishing it, but it is our effort on doing it what God takes into account. I have practice swimming for over 30 years, and currently practice Thriatlon. Have participated in many competitions, and have done several Ironmans. Excercizing has made me a better person, has helped me achieve greater goals, and has also taken it toll. It also has helped me to understand the concept of "achieving the impossible". My competition is not against others, it is against myself. What I did yesterday and how can I make it better today? That is my philosophy in life Focusing on my own effort, achievements and failures has helped me to become the man that I am today. I strongly believe God wants as all to achieve our very best, by means of applying our best effort. I cannot judge others and will not, but by my own experience, it is very important for us as Christians, to take care of ourselves and our body as an integral part of who we are.
Interesting question? I believe we need to take a Holistic view of ourselves. I see many Christians and non-Christian exercising their bodies by jogging, walking, working with weights but fail to exercise their soul by spiritual disciplines. I've also seen (maybe more so)the opposite. Maybe it is time we consider simplifing our lives and ask How would remembering the Sabbath look in the lives of Christians?
As one delivered by the grace of God from the maze of nirvana, please let me urge you to turn from the yogic techniques to the One who created the body and soul that Yoga seeks to manipulate. Yoga sets aside spiritual "gatekeepers" in our consciousnesses and opens our minds to demonic influences. The most radical "way" is probably Kundalini, which those delivered from it, or Indian Christians who have seen it up close, will tell you is nothing short of inviting immediate, full, possession. Bhakthi, Hatha, etc., are but more subtle forms of the same deception.
