Where Did Evil Come From???

I again want to start off by saying that I appreciate everyone for their prayers. I had an MRI and EEG this week. Easter weekend I will be having a 72 hour EEG.

I still have not heard back from any of the doctors on any of the reports yet. Please continue to keep us in your prayers. I again want to thank you for prayers, encouragement, and patience during this difficult time in our lives.

Yes, I have quite a few questions. First, I want to How do you define evil? Where did evil come from? Did God create it? Is it part of His characteristics? If God is loving, pure, righteous and holy, where did evil come? Does evil contradict what they Bible says about God? What does it say about God if he did create evil and that it is one of His characteristics?

How does God view evilness? How does the church view evilness? How does the world view evilness? How should believers respond to evilness? Do we try to ignore it or water down evilness? If so how and why? Can a Christian be evil and be saved? If so, how and why; if not why? Is there really eternal consequences for evilness or is it a myth? How should preachers, ministers, teachers approach the subject of evilness? Is preaching about hell the right way or is preaching grace the right way? Should there be a balance? If so why? Why are many teachers and ministers afraid to speak on evilness?

What do you think?

Preacherman , ya know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers

as 4 your Question,
There is no if God is Love? But

GOD IS LOVE!
Jesus came from God, and he was pure, had to been to take our sin on himself ! so since Jesus was pure, then so was God!

Hi Kinney,

A few off the cuff thoughts about evil..

1) God is not the source of evil.

2) Evil comes from within creation not apart from it.. it is a product of pride.. choices made from a pride motive are evil.

3) Love has no meaning apart from evil.

4) Love costs "us" while evil costs "them".

5) Evil is the natural progression of pride while love is the natural progression of humility.

6) People suffer because of evil.. before and after death.. but remember God is not the source of evil, torment or suffering.. these all come from within creation.

Just a few thoughts.

Have a great weekend!

Hi Kinney,

I am new here... my heart goes out to you, your family, as my prayers also follow. GBS... a lot to overcome.
I am so sorry you have to deal with that.

Evil... well backwards it reads Live. Irony perhaps? A sick joke by the founders of the english language?

I am struggling with any all definitions we put to things when it comes to spirituality. Because I would imagine it means something different to everyone as 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder'.

So I can't say I know... but to deny it exists is to let it off its leash, to pay it too much lip service takes our eyes off Christ, which is, I would imagine, its purpose for existance to begin with???

Jel,
Thank you for your prayers and you are so right about the God that we serve as believers. I am so thankful that we serve a God who is loving and pure in every way. I don't know what I would do if God wasn't. Do you?

Kansas Bob,
Excellant thoughts on evil.
I like what you says in point 5: Evil is a natural progression of pride while love is a natural progression of humility.

Cindyhan111,
I love what you say in your last thought that I think is so very true: "To deny it exists is to let it off of its leash, to pay to much lip service takes our eyes off of Christ, which is, I would imagine, for its purpose to existance, begin with???" How true, How true!

Hi, Preacherman! So glad to hear you're doing better again.

This will sound like a cop-out, but man's definitions of "good" and "evil" don't always agree, and they do not agree with God's.

God said that every He created was "good" and even "very good", and yet He also created the serpent, and the tool by which he would tempt Adam and Eve to sin. He also created Adam and Eve as imperfect beings, susceptible to temptation. Was that "good"? In our short-sighted view (and certainly before c. 33 AD, we would have said, "No." But see now that all that was part of the path toward us receiving the Holy Spirid and perfect salvation, which are both, indeed, very, VERY good!

Also interestingly, Isaiah 45:7 says, "I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things."

First, I'll be praying for your test results.

Second, a lot of people I talk to these days (especially in and around San Francisco) have left me with the impression that evil doesn't really exist.

They wouldn't come right out and say that and would probably even disagree if you implied that's what they believe, but then they'll turn around and say that there is no real standard to judge good from evil.

Of course "evil" has different meanings. It can mean calamity, or wickedness.

God wants a world in which people freely choose him. Of course that is contingent on grace being given, yet even in that grace (I believe in something like "prevenient grace") there remains choice. And that continues, as we either seek to draw near to God, and to continue to walk with God by faith, or we drift apart from God.

Why God allows some of the evil in the world, I don't know. I do know by faith, and believe that in the end, somehow, some way, God will make all things right, and all things new. Justice will be fully satisfied, and I'm thankful to read in James that justice triumphs over mercy.

Happy Easter, Kenny!

"But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive" (1 Cor. 15:20-22).

I pray that your EEG went well this weekend.

On evilness, I think it's sort of like fear of the unknown. People are scared of it, scared of the word and therefore try to ignore it. The problem with that is, it's like anything else that Satan is a part of, before you known it can creep in and take control.

Wonderful thoughts on this subject everyone. I greatly appreciate everyone's thoughts and comments. I most of all appreciate your thoughts, encouragement, prayers, support, patience during this difficult time in my life. I am still having severe migraines. I did have a seventy two hour EEG this weekend. Didn't get to go to Easter service but did hear some good sermons on television. It was great having my family with me during the weekend. They told me that Dr. Greg Cummings did a wonderful job with the Easter Service Sunday. It was great watching the boys hunt eggs as well. I am asking for your continued prayers as I will finally know something within 10 days. Waiting is the hardest. Yet God is a God who does give me hope and strength. I love everyone and hope everyone had a wonderful Easter Weekend.

evil is the corruption of something intended for good.

It comes with knowledge.

I understand ur bewilderment with "evil". You notice of course that "evil" spells "live" backwards. Also, the so called no. of evill is 666, or reversed it is 999. Evil exists of man's doing, a lack of conscious awareness of self. They inflict pain on others as they view the world and situations backwards or distorted. They also see themselves as being victimized by others, when in fact it is their doing. Denial, denial, denial, is their mantra. They will die before they see the truth, even then they go with their distorted vision of the world. Working in Psyche, there are many medications for the mentally ill, none for evil. We all evolve at different rates, levels and so forth. Anytime I come across evil, which is all staff, I don't even bother to defend or preach my stance. There is none, I leave them to sit with themselves. Evil thrives in the murky still waters of the mind, where bacteria grows and as a germ it tries to spread. A Narcisistic individual will always view themselves as the victim or the victor, as long as it's all about them. They have a fragile ego, they can't even begin to take responsibility for misdoings. So, as one who has experienced much evil doings, I sit in silence, smile, and thank the Ominescent Creative Spirit, that I can see the difference, and in fact, sit, smile to evil and pass them by. Much Love Lite & Life to U.
